Jakarta (12/9) — As a manifestation of its commitment to sustainability and environmental preservation, Martha Tilaar Group, through one of its cosmetic brands under PT Martina Berto Tbk, namely Sariayu, recently held a mangrove planting activity in the PIK Mangrove Ecotourism Area, North Jakarta. This activity is also part of Martha Tilaar Group's Beauty Green pillar which was held as a form of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in order to commemorate Martha Tilaar Group's 55th anniversary.

With the spirit of Sariayu for Nature: Green Steps for the Future, this environmental conservation activity, which is expected to have a direct impact on Indonesia's nature, also involves students from Jakarta State University and Martha Tilaar Business Academy and collaborates with two strategic partners: Rekosistem and LEVA (Sustainable Mangrove and Nature).

From Empties to a New Ecosystem

The funds for the mangrove seedlings were raised through a program to collect single-use packaging (empties) from beauty products, which are then sold to Rekosistem—a waste management startup that supports a circular economy. Rekosistem accepts various types of waste, both recyclables like bottles and cardboard, and non-recyclables like food scraps, and manages them responsibly. This step not only reduces waste but also transforms it into a tangible contribution to the environment.

The collection of empties was carried out in various places, starting from 10 campuses included in the Martha Tilaar Group Road to Campus destinations, at internal events, at Martha Tilaar Group business units, and at 3 Martha Tila  ar Store locations (Karawaci, Bintaro Xchange, and Kota Kasablanka.

Collaboration for Coastal Reforestation

For this activity, Sariayu collaborated with LEVA, an inclusive community focused on mangrove forest conservation in Indonesia. Founded in 2020, LEVA is under the auspices of PT Semesta Mangi Lestari and is known as a green startup that prioritizes environmental services based on education and action. This mangrove planting activity includes:
- Direct planting of mangrove seedlings by participants
- Education about the mangrove ecosystem and its benefits
- Learning about mangrove nurseries
- Boat tour to learn more about the conservation area

By planting mangroves, Sariayu and the participants are contributing to the restoration of ecosystems crucial to Indonesia's environmental sustainability. Mangroves are more than just coastal plants. They are natural barriers with numerous functions, including protecting coastlines from abrasion and tidal flooding, absorbing carbon and helping mitigate climate change, providing habitat for various marine and terrestrial species, and supporting the livelihoods of coastal communities.

Responsible Beauty

This activity proves that beauty isn't just about appearance, but also about caring and real action. Sariayu believes that self-care and caring for the earth are two complementary things.

"We hope this activity not only provides valuable experience for the participants but also inspires the wider community to participate in preserving nature. Because a green future starts with small, consistent steps," said Jos Irwin Hartanto, Sales & Marketing Director of PT Martina Berto Tbk.

Sariayu's concern for the earth and the environment has been around for a long time, one example being its Clean Beauty concept. With clean beauty, beauty products are environmentally friendly and free from toxic substances that could potentially harm your health.

Since its inception, the Martha Tilaar Group has consistently used natural ingredients and is committed to raising consumer awareness of the importance of safe ingredients in beauty products.
