15 Years of Journey of PAC Martha Tilaar and I La Galigo
As one of the biggest Indonesian literature that has been recognized as Memory of the World by the UNESCO, I La Galigo will eventually played in Indonesia. I La Galigo is a theatrical-music performance which its manu adopted from Sureq Galigo from South Sulawesi, also known as La Galigo. This performace has been globally played in so many cities around the world like Singapore, New York, Amsterdam, Paris, Melbourne, Barcelona, Italy, and Milan before. This July, directed by American theater director Robert Wilson, I La Galigo return to Indonesia for four days from July 3, 5, 6, and 7 at Ciputra Artpreneur, Jakarta.
Sureq Galigo written in 13th and 15th century as ancient Bugis epoc poem. As they adopt the literature to the stage, it is the root of a story that describes an adventure, journey, war, forbiden love, complicated marriage, and bertrayal. I La Galigo splendidly played through dance, body movement, soundscape and music arranged by Indonesia maestro Rahayu Supanggah. During two hours, the audience are spoiled by its storytelling, riveting lighting and spectacular stage.
To perfect I La Galigo, PAC Martha Tilaar consistent to take part in this performance as its official makeup partner for all the actors. Lead by the Makeup Director of Puspita Martha International Beauty School Lucia Tan, PAC Martha Tilaar creates dramatic looks that made all the actors more expressive. Great collaboration and coordination between makeup and stage team are importanlty needed so they can create perfect impression to this performance. PAC Martha Tilaar prove it one more time that the team can manifest the director’s vision in creating I La Galigo characters. Not only in this performance, but also in previous shows since its first appearance in 2004.
