Indonesia is a tropical country that has so many flora. One of its endemic plants is orchid. As reports by Indonesia.go.id, Indonesia is home for 5.000 orchid species from 43.000 species all over the world. Between that numbers of orchids are from Indonesia, which naturally grow in the forest or cultivated by community. One of the those is a rare orchid Coelogyne marthae SEC Sierra.

Martha Tilaar’s team is so lucky to have a chance to see Coelogyne marthae SEC Sierra in Bogor Botanical Garden when it blooms beautifully. “Welcome to our garden. There, you can see marthae orchid. Let me take you there,” Tutik Siregar from Bogor Botanical Garden warmly welcome our visitation. Of course, we didn’t want to miss the opportunity to take pictures of that beautiful green petaled orchid.

Not everyone can see this rare orchid because Bogor Botanical Garden only have one parent plant that need to be protected from potential damage. “Marthae breeding is difficult, therefore we do extra protection when we bring it to exhibiton. Some people tempted to touch the flower, it caused damage sometimes,” said Tutik. We are so happy to see Coelogyne marthae blooming that day. In the future, Martha Tilaar Group hope to take more part in marthae preservation for young generation.
