Last Thursday (5/03), Era Soekamto Indonesia with Permata Bank Priority held Mindful Living and Legacy di Vastu Home, Jakarta. Moderated by Era Soekamto herself, Dr. (H.C.) Martha Tilaar and her daughter who is also the Vice Chairwoman of Martha Tilaar Group, Wulan Tilaar, came as the speakers to share inspiring stories of Martha Tilaar Group’s journey in Indonesia beauty business and its contributions on women empowerment movement during 50 years.

In keeping with Empowerment Women as the event’s theme, the similarity of company’s missions which are to encourage Indonesia women role in culture development and preservation, to give positive influence not only for her family but also to her community, and also to create a legacy for young generation, make this collaboration is even meaningful. “Talk about women empowerment, Dr. Martha is our mentor. As Mrs. Wulan mentioned, women empowerment that Dr. Martha did has involved more than 6.000 women to make them independent, like for example Mrs. Lestari with her jamu who also came today. So, in this 50th year of Martha Tilaar Group, as the inheritor of the company, what is your next aspirations for Indonesia women empowerment?” Era asked Wulan.

Admitted by Wulan, to be a part of Martha Tilaar Group as the inheritor is super challenging. She realized, to take the label as a burden will only make it more difficult for herself, therefore she chooses to take it as a challenge she should carry with responsibility, so she can make a difference. Now, she also supports Martha Tilaar Group’s collaborations with various parties as to the policy taken by the company.

One of the examples, besides training center for spa therapists that propose to raise the living standard and self-reliance of poor Indonesian women, since 2019 Martha Tilaar Group also held collaboration with the Asian Pulp and Paper (APP) in women empowerment. “We do the socialization of our spa therapist training and medicine, cosmetic, and aromatic plants (TOKA) to APP forest community in some isolated areas of Indonesia like in Jambi, Mojokerto, and Borneo. We do feel a little bit skeptics about this program at first, but in fact, now we have 11 women who join the training in Martha Tilaar Traini Center and have been hired in Martha Tilaar Salon Day Spa around Indonesia,” said Wulan.
